THE WINNER: Cody Kelley


School: Campbell County (Gillette, Wyo.)
Grade: Senior
Position: Point guard
Height: 6-foot-4
Weight: 180 pounds

Athletic achievement: He led the Camels to a 25-3 record and the Class 4A state championship this past season. Kelley averaged 24.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.8 steals per game this past season. The state’s reigning Gatorade Boys Basketball Player of the Year, he scored a game-high 22 points in a 56-51 win over Kelly Walsh in the Class 4A state final.

Academic excellence: Kelley has maintained a 3.98 GPA.

Exemplary character: A devoted parishioner in his church community, he has volunteered locally to collect and deliver canned goods for families in need and as a youth basketball camp counselor.


“Cody Kelley’s leadership, work ethic and drive have been as good as anybody to ever come through Gillette,” said Campbell County head coach Bubba Hladky. “He is a model for what a coach wants out of his players. I feel extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with such a fine individual.”

THE FUTURE: Kelley remains undecided upon a collegiate destination.
