THE WINNER: Christian Mayer


School: Big Horn (Wyo.)
Grade: Senior
Position: Wide receiver
Height: 6-foot-1
Weight: 195 pounds

Athletic achievement: He caught 41 passes for a state single-season record 1,116 yards and 17 touchdowns this past season, leading the Rams (11-1) to the Class 2A state championship game. Mayer averaged 27.2 yards per reception and also rushed the ball 19 times for 275 yards. A two-time First Team All-State selection, he was named Offensive Player of the Year on the Casper Star-Tribune Super 25 team.

Academic excellence: Mayer has maintained a 3.93 GPA.

Exemplary character: Also a track and field standout, he is a member of the National Honor Society and has volunteered locally on behalf of youth sports programs.


“Mayer is a game-changer in every way,” said Larry Yerardi, head coach at Wright. “He has tremendous speed and he’s a defensive coordinator’s nightmare—they use him in every capacity they can.”

THE FUTURE: Mayer remains undecided on a collegiate destination.
