Yorktown swimmers gain state after additional qualifiers added

By

Yorktown’s girls swim team left Saturday’s Fishers Sectional uncertain whether it would have any participants at the IHSAA state meet, which begins Friday at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis. The Tigers did not have any event winners in the competitive Fishers Sectional, and also didn’t meet any individual state qualification times.

The Tigers learned later in the weekend that two individuals and two relays had qualified after additional participants were added to fill each race. Yorktown’s Katie Keller will compete in the 100 backstroke, and Lauren Elston qualified in the 200 freestyle. The Tigers will also compete in the 200 freestyle relay and the 200 medley relay.

One event, diving, has yet to complete its state meet field. Diving regionals will be held today, with Central’s Jordyn Cline and Suzie Smith competing at the Hamilton Southeastern Regional. New Castle’s Megan Millikan has qualified to compete at the Plainfield Regional. Both regionals will begin at 6 p.m. The top eight finishers at each regional qualify for state.
