Jon Merrill was the winning pitcher for Reynolds on Tuesday night.

The streak lives on.

Reynolds beat visiting Erwin for the third time this season, 4-3, in Tuesday night’s start to the NCHSAA 3-A baseball playoffs.

The win earns the Rockets (17-6) at least one more home game on Friday or Saturday, and extends Western North Carolina’s longest active winning streak in baseball to 13 games.

Reynolds scored all its runs in the first four innings.

Spartanburg Methodist recruit Cory Watt was 3-for-4, Mars Hill recruit Jared Green went 2-4 with a double and winning pitcher Jon Merrill was 1-3 with an RBI.

Merrill scattered three earned runs and one walk in 5.1 innings. He struck out seven Warriors (12-10) before turning the game over to Kyle Cagle.

Cagle threw 1.2 scoreless innings with no hits, three walks and three strikeouts.

Will Myers was 1-3 at the plate with a home run and three RBIs for Erwin.

The Rockets now turn their attention to either No. 12 Southwestern Randolph (17-8) or No. 21 Forestview (15-9).
