16-year-old soccer player in South Carolina dies on first day of practice

A 16-year-old Greenville, S.C., high school junior died during the first soccer practice of the year Monday.

According to the coroner’s office, Titus Martin Jr. collapsed on the field during Monday afternoon’s practice at Legacy Charter School.

Coaches and other school faculty tried to help Martin until Parker Fire Department and Greenville County EMS arrived, according to the report. Martin was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
