DEJA TURNER

COVINGTON HOLY CROSS, 5-8, SR., G

On the floor: Turner averaged 16.5 points and 3.8 rebounds and shot 38.1 percent from 3-point range in leading Covington Holy Cross to its first state championships. She was named the Sweet 16 MVP. Turner joined the varsity program at Holmes as a seventh-grader and scored her 1,000th career point as a freshman. She sat out her junior season after transferring from Holmes to Holy Cross.

Off the floor: Turner has a 4.0 grade-point average and ranks third in her senior class. She’s also a member of the National Honor Society.

Future: Turner has signed with Wright State.

Quotable: “The thing that stands out is that she can flat out score,” Holy Cross coach Kes Murphy said. “She has a great basketball IQ and understands that if her shots aren’t falling that there are other ways to score by getting to the basket and drawing fouls.”
