MATT ROSE

LEXINGTON CHRISTIAN, 6-7, Sr., F

On the floor: Skilled, athletic forward averaged 22.2 points and 8.5 rebounds for LCA. He shot 47.4 percent from the floor and 85.2 percent from the free-throw line, and coach Nate Valentine said he was used at all five positions during the season. He was the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches’ 11th Region Player of the Year. He’s second at LCA in career points (1,506) and rebounds (654).

Off the floor: Rose is the youngest of six children. The other five are twin sisters and triplet brothers.  He said being the only “single” taught him independence. Rose can also play the piano.

Future: Has signed to play for coach Scott Padgett at Samford. Also had offers from Lipscomb, UNC-Asheville, Appalachian State, Columbia, Army and Air Force.

Quotable: “He’s a tremendous talent, a great teammate, a very competitive kid, very humble,” Valentine said. “I think he created a lot of matchup problems for people because he was so versatile. He shoots it so well, and we probably ran more lob plays this year than I will in my next 30 years of coaching because he’s so athletic.”
