PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Vital stats: The co-captain of the Warriors held a season average of 46.6 and carded a low-score of 38. A John Jay student, Bennett was All-League, All-Conference and the only Wappingers golfer to earn All-Section 1 honors. She qualified for sectionals ranked 14th, shot a 90 at the Section One championships’ first round at Phillip Rotella Golf Course, where the senior shot a 90, she placed 14th overall.
Quotable: “(Bennett) was a great role model for the entire team,” Wappingers coach Christopher Perry said. “She has a contagious personality and is passionate about playing golf . . . I was very impressed with the leadership and work ethic she displayed.”
Vital stats: Andalis shot a season-low of 42 at Vassar Golf Course and carded a 105 in her first round at Sectionals. The senior had a stroke differential of 11.38 for the season.
Quotable: “Camila is a great athlete and hard worker when it comes to golf. She was accepted to (College of) St. Rose in Albany to play golf,” Arlington coach Liz VanZandt said.
School: Our Lady of Lourdes
Vital Stats: The senior opened the season firing a 42 at Garrison Golf Club ‘under very difficult conditions’ according to her coach. Conger was awarded player of the year by her Lourdes teammates. She ranked 17th in Section One for season scoring average.
Quotable: “Hailey was the team captain and showed great leadership during the year,” Lourdes coach Bill Miller said. “She was a strong competitor and averaged 50 at Dutchess Golf Club, a very difficult layout.”
School: John Jay
Vital Stats: Fischer, a captain of Wappingers’ girls team, averaged a 44.4 over eight regular-season matches. The senior led the team by carding the low-score in six of eight matches. Bennett placed 16th in the Section One championships.
Quotable: “Allie led the combined John Jay and Ketcham team as the most consistent golfer . . . She has a great sense of humor on and off the course, but when it comes time to dial in she has laser focus and makes the tough shots,” Miller said.
Vital Stats: Giusti shot a regular season low-score of 45 at Vassar Golf Course. In her first round at Sectionals, the sophomore carded a 112.
Quotable: “Jessica actually thinks about golf all year long,” VanZandt said. “Usually she contacts me saying how much she can’t wait for the season to start and how she misses playing when it is off season. Not too many of my kids think like this. She is extremely competitive and wants to continue to improve her game.”
Vital Stats: The John Jay sophomore was awarded All-League honors and shot a 45 twice in the regular season. LoVerme carded in the 40s in five of her six last matches.
Quotable: “. . . It was clear that (LoVerne) is an emerging star for this team following in the footsteps of our two seniors,” Miller said. “She puts significant time into her game outside of practice, whether it is staying late or on the weekends. I am excited to see how she evolves as a player in the off season.”
COACH OF THE YEAR
Vital Stats: VanZandt led her Admirals to enjoy exceptional seasons individually — namely senior Camila Andalis and sophomore Jessica Giusti, who capped their season with standout performances and were awarded All-Star status.
Quotable: “Liz is very dedicated to her players, and she has a very good knowledge of the game,” Our Lady of Lourdes coach Bill Miller said. “All through the matches, she’s very dedicated to how her players are doing and how her team is playing relative to the scoring of the match. And she is competitive . . . but also is mindful of the players of the other team as well.”
