The Westchester County Center in White Plains takes center stage for athletics a few times a year, including this week when it hosts the annual Slam Dunk high school basketball showcase, and then in February and March for the Section 1 basketball championship final fours.
This year’s annual Slam Dunk Tournament will field six local teams, according to the bracket released by Westchester County Parks and Recreation supervisor Kevin Cook on Wednesday. The tournament will run from Dec. 26-29 at the Westchester County Center.
Four of the six local teams participating — Ossining, Irvington, Albertus Magnus and Peekskill — reached the section final in their respective classes last season, the former three winning gold balls. Harrison and Ursuline round out the field of Section 1 teams.
The tournament will feature two, four-team brackets and one showcase challenge game, which will be a tip-off between Irvington and Harrison.
