Bill Kramer of Naples (Fla.) High School and Oaks Christian School’s (Westlake Village, Calif.) Jim Benkert have been selected as the head coaches for the 2016 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
Kramer will coach the East team for the second time after serving as an assistant coach in the East’s 2013 victory. He has led Naples to two state titles in 2001 and 2007, including five regional titles and 14 playoff appearances in his 18-year tenure. Kramer was also recently elected to the Florida Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
“It’s absolutely … no, what’s a better word? It’s spectacular. It’s wonderful. An All-Star game like that, there’s nothing like it,” Kramer told The News-Press in September.
Benkert, currently in his first season as a co-head coach at oaks Christian, helped lead his team to an 11-1 record after spending the last 26 years at Westlake High School. He led Warriors to four CIF-Southern Section championships and his 226 wins are the most in Ventura County history.
“Coaches play an important role in the positive development of America’s youth,” said Mark S. Davis, deputy assistant secretary of the Army for marketing in a press release. “The coaches and assistant coaches chosen for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl are highly accomplished and respected leaders, who like our Army Soldiers, base their leadership on a set of core values. We are proud to honor all of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl coaches and congratulate each of them on their selection.”
