Volleyball: Merrill at Marshfield, 7 p.m. Thursday: Two of the top teams in the Wisconsin Valley Conference meet in the opening day of conference play. Merrill is the defending conference champions, but lost to Marshfield in the Tigers home invitational last week. Marshfield finished fourth in the WVC last season and was swept by Merrill in a pair of conference games. The other WVC games on Thursday are SPASH at Wausau East and D.C. Everest at Wisconsin Rapids.

Football: Stratford at Marathon, 7 p.m. Friday: Ryan Gassner rushed for 146 yards and a TD and Kellen Vetter threw for 128 yards and a score to help the Raiders improve to 2-0. The Tigers, meanwhile, beat Mosinee, a D3 team in Week 1, and trounced Colby 32-0 to improve to 2-0. Friday’s Marawood match-up will be the first conference test for both teams. Stratford won 21-13 last year.

Football: Neenah at Marshfield, 7 p.m. Friday at Beell Stadium: The Tigers shook off some first game miscues and gutted out a big win over D.C. Everest Friday night. Tied 10-10 at the half, Marshfield outscored the Evergreens 14-7 in the second half. Braden Bohman’s 24-yard run with 7 minutes, 42 seconds left in the game sealed the win. The Rockets are 1-1, beating Kaukauna 35-3 in Week 1 and falling to Kimberly 35-14 last Friday.
