Thirty-two teams will descend on Hoover, Ala., for the National Select 7 on 7 Championship from July 16-18. Thirteen different states will be represented in the four eight-team pools, with Alabama and Georgia leading the way with nine and six teams, respectively.
Each team is guaranteed seven games in pool play, which will determine their seeding for the double-elimination championship tournament. Games will run 21 minutes, with the clock stopping during the last minute.
There will be a mercy rule, and if the margin between teams is 21 points or more after the first 20 minutes, the clock will run non-stop for the rest of the game. One-hand touch rules will also be in effect.
This year’s field came from 12 different qualifying regions, including ones in 10 different states in June and July.
In last year’s event, second-seeded Warren Easton (New Orleans, La.) took down No. 12-seed Spanish Fort (Ala.) 25-24 in the final. Warren Easton will not be in this year’s championship while Spanish Fort returns to avenge its title game loss.
Notable alumni of the event include Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones, former All-Pro fullback Le’Ron McClain, Ole Miss defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche and Alabama running back T.J. Yeldon.
