Help the Asbury Park Press continue the tradition of summer all-star ice hockey showcases at the Jersey Shore, while raising money for a worthy cause.
The inaugural APP All-Star Hockey Classic is set for 4 p.m. Sunday, when 42 of the top skaters from Monmouth and Ocean Counties will head to Middletown Ice World to compete in a charitable game to raise funds and support for the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Kitchen of Red Bank and Toms River.
This collection of Shore Conference hockey star power will entertain fans with three periods of highly skilled, fast-paced hockey action. Tickets are just $10 and available at the door.
But the game isn’t the only attraction in Middletown on Sunday.
Fans can also win autographed sports memorabilia and other great prizes, including game tickets to see the New Jersey Devils, as part of the charity raffle. Every dollar spent on the raffle will go to the JBJ Soul Kitchen. Items donated include autographs from stars such as Ken Daneyko, Jim Dowd, Joe Klecko, David Tyree, Brian Leonard and even a stick signed by members of the 2014-15 New Jersey Devils.
In addition to 100 percent of the raffle sales, partial proceeds from ticket sales, commemorative program revenue and T-shirt sales will be delivered to the JBJ Soul Kitchen.
Doors open at 2 p.m. and before the game, fans will also have the opportunity to meet honorary coaches Grant Marshall and Nick Fotiu. Marshall was a 1992 first-round draft pick and two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Dallas Stars and New Jersey Devils. Fotiu was the first New York-born member of the New York Rangers and a 14-year NHL veteran.
NCAA Division I college commitments, major junior hockey draft selections and tendered contract recipients, and USA Hockey Developmental Camp invitees are among the 42 competitors picked to play Sunday. Check out the full list of local standouts below.
