Tampa, Florida — Hillsborough High School had five players sign Letters of Intent, on National Signing Day, led by quarterback Dwayne Lawson who is headed to Virginia Tech. Lawson switched from an earlier, non-binding commitment to Miami.
Here are the 5:
- Dwayne Lawson — Virginia Tech
- William Lanier — Florida Tech
- Anthony King — Central International University
- Xavier Byrd — Central International University
- Abdul-‘Azeez Al-Shaa’ir — Florida Atlantic
Central International is a start-up football program in Lynchburg, VA.
Dwayne Lawson told 10 News Sports anchor Dave Wirth, what sold him on Virginia Tech.
“Just going on my visit, and being around players who really care about the program, who care about their coach (Frank Beamer),” Dwayne said. “In that respect, it’s a lot like Hillsborough High, having a coach that’s stable, who’s been there a long time, and he knows how to win.”
“It’s a fabulous move,” said Dwayne’s head coach at Hillsborough HS, Earl Garcia. “Scot Loeffler is the offensive coordinator, he coached Tom Brady and eight other NFL quarterbacks. He’s going to be tutored by the best, and play in the ACC. It’s a great move for him, great move.”
