The Tyus Battle saga seems to finally have come to an end, as the former Gill St. Bernard (N.J.) product committed to Syracuse after decommitting from Michigan in May. He announced his decision via Twitter Monday morning.
Battle is the 24th-ranked prospect in 247 sports’ Class of 2016 and the No. 6 shooting guard in the class. His 247 profile has him standing at 6-foot-6 and 205 pounds, with 25 offers. He will not return to Gill. St. Bernard for his senior season and had his junior season hampered by injury, appearing in just nine games.
As a sophomore, he averaged 22.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game for Gill St. Bernard.
His pledge brings Syracuse a second member in the Class of 2016, along with four-star forward Matthew Moyer. However, Syracuse is now one over the scholarship limit imposed by the NCAA sanctions for the 2016-17 season, meaning the Orange will need to free up a scholarship or get some back in its appeal.
Battle took an official visit to Syracuse the weekend after decommitting from the Wolverines and now gives the Orange a 6-foot-6 weapon who can also handle the ball well.
