G.W. Carver High senior Lyndell “Mack” Wilson was named a Butkus Award finalist for high school players.
A five-star recruit, Wilson is one of five finalists for the nation’s best linebacker award along with Ben Davis of Gordo (Ala.) High, Mique Juarez (North High School, Torrance Calif.) Caleb Kelly (Clovis West High, Fresno, Calif.) and Maxs Tupai (Murray High, Salt Lake City, Utah).
The 6-foot, 2-inch, 236-pound Wilson is undeclared as he’s received scholarship offers from Alabama, Auburn, Ohio State, LSU, Clemson, Florida State, Florida, Oregon, Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Tennessee, UCLA, South Carolina, Miami (Fla.), USC, West Virginia, Louisville and Kentucky.
Wilson has been invited to play in the Under Armour All-American game Jan. 2 in Orlando. National Signing Day is Feb. 3.
Alabama senior linebacker Reggie Ragland is a Butkus Award finalist for college players along with Leonard Floyd (Georgia), Deion Jones (LSU), Raekwon McMillan (Ohio State) and Jaylon Smith (Notre Dame).
Ragland leads Alabama in tackles with 85 total stops.
