Win or lose, Monday night is the final home game for Haywood County Post 47.
For nine consecutive games now, the outcome has been the same.
Haywood County (24-5) got an RBI single from Nathan Summey in the top of the 10th inning Sunday night to take Game 1 of the best-of-three Area IV championship series – 5-4 at Caldwell County Post 29.
Mason Fox scored the winning run.
Game 2 begins at 7 p.m. Monday at Lake Junaluska Elementary School and Game 3 (if necessary) would be back at Caldwell County (27-8) on Tuesday.
Sunday’s Game 1: Haywood County 5, Caldwell County 4.
Monday’s Game 2: At Haywood County, 7 p.m.
Tuesday’s Game 3: At Caldwell County, 7 p.m. (if necessary).
Regardless of who wins or loses the regional series, both teams will participate in the July 24-28 American Legion state tournament in Salisbury.
