Editor’s note: Following are the two athletes nominated by their school for Gannett Central Wisconsin Media’s High School Sports Awards. The top male and female athletes of the year will be announced May 6, along with the coaches and teams of the year.
Parents: Al and Julie Kneifl
Academic honors earned: High Academic honors earned: freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior year. Also got to attend a leadership conference my sophomore year representing my class.
Favorite sports memory: Making it to the third round in playoffs my senior year of basketball. Our school hasn’t made it that far in girls basketball since 1989. It was a great accomplishment and very memorable thing.
Inspiration: My coach since 5th grade, Gary Gunderson has been my inspiration. He has inspired to do the best I can do know matter what I am going through. Even through my toughest days he has pushed me to become a better athlete and also a better person.
College plans: I plan to go to UW-Oshkosh to major in something with the medical field. Either Kinesiology or Physical Therapy.
Junior letters, honors: Volleybal (first team all-conference, captain).
Senior letters, honors: Volleyball (captain), basketball (second team all-conference, captain).
Academic honors earned: Member of the National Honor Society.
Favorite sports memory: Making the football playoffs this past year during my Senior year; being with a group of guys who worked together so well and were happy for every each other. Every game and practice we worked hard but had fun too.
Advice to an athlete: Work hard and have fun, make friends. Remember that your coaches want the best for you; even when you doubt yourself.
Inspiration: My older brother Leo was and is my inspiration. Leo always worked extra hard at all the sports he participated in. Things didn’t always go his way but he always stayed competitive until the final buzzer.
College plans: I will be attending UW Stout, majoring in Business and Marketing.
