Aberdeen Central wrestling standout and University of Minnesota recruit John Frisco took home the 182-pound title Friday at the 2015 Cliff Keen USAW Junior Folkstyle Nationals.
The annual tournament — featuring wrestlers from 38 states — wrapped up Friday at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Frisco, a back-to-back Class A state champion in South Dakota, defeated Max Lyon of Western Dubuque (Iowa) in an 8-4 decision. Frisco opened the tournament with a bye, followed with a 9-5 decision over Luke Dodd (Apple Valley, Minn.), and earned pins in the quarter- and semifinal round over Shawn Jager (Westmont, Ill.) and Emlio Fowler (Gardner, Kan.), respectively.
As a senior, Frisco turned in a 42-0 campaign en route to the 182-pound title at the Class A state tournament in Sioux Falls. Frisco was named Most Outstanding Wrestler for the tourney, and his Golden Eagles finished in second place behind Pierre for the team title.
