D.J. Beverly ran 14 times for 148 yards, including a 78-yard touchdown, in Evangel Christian’s 28-16 home win over Kingwood on Friday.

Greg Taylor had 88 yards on 16 carries with touchdowns of 8 and 3 yards for the Lions (2-3), while Aaron Alpert was 10-of-12 passing for 107 yards.

Alpert had a 6-yard TD pass to Dez Livingston.

Nick Whitfield finished with nine tackles, including a sack, and Beverly made an interception for Evangel. Kingwood fell to 0-5.

Fort Dale Academy 40, Sparta 22

EVERGREEN — Luke Taylor compiled 303 total yards and four touchdowns to help the Eagles (3-2) knock off No. 8 Sparta (5-1).

Taylor finished 8-of-12 for 194 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 109 yards and two touchdowns. Stephen Hartley caught touchdown passes of 80 and 15 yards for the Eagles (3-2).

Macon-East 28, Coosa Valley 13

HARPERSVILLE — Rashad Walker threw for 119 yards and a touchdown, ran for 94 yards and a score and made an interception for the Knights (1-4, 1-2 Class AA, Region 1).

Jackson Hicks was the leading tackler with 13 tackles, including one for loss, for Macon-East. Coosa Valley (0-5, 0-4) lost its 16th straight game.

Monroe Academy 34, Autauga Academy 7

PRATTVILLE — Blaine Lee ran 21 times for 154 yards and a touchdown to lead the third-ranked Volunteers (6-0, 3-0 Class AAA, Region 2).

Joseph Burke had 79 yards on 22 carries and Tevin Sharp ran five times for 63 yards for the 10th-ranked Generals (3-2, 3-1). Mason Friday had 10 tackles and a fumble recovery, while Will Armstrong added eight tackles and D.J. Gardner six.

Griffin McKenzie ran for two touchdowns and threw for one to help Monroe take a 28-0 lead.

Burke threw a 34-yard TD pass to Coby Ross for Autauga. Dalton McKenzie added a 20-yard TD run for Monroe.

Pike Liberal Arts 62, SMCA 6

TROY — Reed Jinright threw for three touchdowns, two to Dacoda McConnell, to lead the Patriots (3-2).

Nathaniel Hebert returned a fumble 87 yards for a touchdown for the Raiders (0-5).

Cason Murphree ran five times for 102 yards, including a 63-yard touchdown, for Pike Lib. Holman Outlaw’s three pass completions included a touchdown. Jinright had seven completions, while McConnell finished with 89 yards receiving. Reed Johnson made eight tackles.

Edgewood 57, Lakeside 7

ELMORE — Nathan Rourke was 14-of-15 passing for 253 yards and four touchdowns, all in the first half, for Edgewood (6-0, 3-0 Class AA, Region 1). The Wildcats led 44-0 at halftime.

Jackson Tate, Daniel Green and Maurice Young each had four receptions. Tate led all receivers with 89 yards and two touchdowns while Green and Young both scored once.

Tyler Price, Antonio Sammons and Rourke scored rushing touchdowns.

Escambia Academy 34, Hooper 0

CANOE — The sixth-ranked Cougars (4-2, 2-1 Class AAA, Region 2) shut out the Colts (0-5, 0-3) for a second straight season. Escambia has beaten Hooper by a combined 123-7 the last three years.

South Choctaw Academy 44, Lowndes Academy 21

HAYNEVILLE — Lowndes (2-3, 1-2 Class A, Region 2) dropped its third straight game. South Choctaw (4-1) improved to 3-0 in region play.

Abbeville Christian 60, Crenshaw Christian 12

ABBEVILLE — The Generals (5-0, 3-0 Class A, Region 1), who are ranked fifth, clinched a playoff berth for a fourth straight season by clubbing the Cougars (1-4, 1-1). Crenshaw gave up 50 points for the first time since Glenwood’s 55-31 victory in 2012.
