Alexa Sammarco and Nicole Kirse led the Raritan softball team to a 4-1 Class A Central victory over Monmouth Regional on Monday afternoon.
In the top of the first inning, Sammarco had a two-single and then stole second and later scored on Kirse’s RBI-single for a 1-0 lead. The Rockets got their final three runs in the seventh inning as Hallie Barone and Daniella Marino each had singles to lead off the inning and an Ashley Marino sacrifice bunt put the runners in scoring position and with two outs Kirse singled in both runs for a 3-0 lead.
Monmouth’s Kimberly Fawcett went 0-for-2 with one RBI, Michelle Montefinese went 0-for-1 with a run scored for the Falcons (6-6).
Raritan’s Kirse went 3-for-4 with three RBI, Samarco finished 2-for-4 and Nicole Coppolino (10-4) didn’t allow an earned run, struck out four and walked one.
Jackson Liberty 18, Lakewood 2: Jackson Liberty’s Kayla Conners went 3-for-4 with a two-run single in the first and a two-run home run in the second as the game went five innings. Lakewood’s runs were scored on two throwing errors in the bottom of the first.
Freehold Township 14, Freehold 4: Freehold Township’s Nicole Baptista went 2-for-2 with three RBI, Kati Vazquez went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run and finished with four RBI and Megan Callahan went 3-for-3 with a double, a home run and two RBI for the Patriots (1-10, 1-6). Freehold’s Taylor Spallanzani and Sam Gabriele each went 2-for-3 for the Colonials (2-6, 0-6).
St. Rose 5, Point Beach 0: Brianna McCarren hit a three-run home run in the third inning, Kristin DiPasquale went 2-for-2 with a walk and Brianna McInerney struck out 11 and walked one. Point Beach’s Kylee Kells struck out seven and walked one.
Brick 6, Brick Memorial 5: In the bottom of the seventh, Brick’s Nicole DiFoglio had a walk-off single and finished 2-for-4 with one RBI. Also, Brick’s Kristi Kawa went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored and Alexa Halley went 2-for-4with two doubles and one run scored. Christine Frazee (4-6) struck out six and walked two for the Green Dragons. Brick Memorial’s Jess Borman went 2-for-3 and Tori Lucarelli went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Shore 18, Point Boro 2: Shore’s Sarah George scored her 100th career goal and finished with four goals and four assists, Lauren Britton had four goals and one assist, Mary Kate George had three goals and and one assist and Molly Santi made one save in the Blue Devils’ Class A Central victory over the Panthers. Point Boro’s Haley Hanrahan and Samantha Herbert each had one goal and Liz Peled had five saves.
CBA 15, Marlboro 4: CBA’s Nick Casner eclipsed the 100th-point mark of his career with a two-goal, three-assist effort, Shay Walczak added four goals and one assist, Michael Carroll had three goals and two assists, Nick Gazzillo had three goals and one assist, John Salcedo had one goal and three assists and Evan Bynoe (three saves) and Ryan McGuiness (two saves) each played goalie for the Colts (9-3). Marlboro’s Chris Kelly had two goals, Mark Paris had one goal and one assist, Tim Dwyer had one goal and Anthony Martino made 11 saves for the Mustangs (0-6).
