MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Kiana Milsaps did everything but sell popcorn for Alexander Central (5-0) Thursday, pitching 5 shutout innings and driving in 4 runs in a 12-0 victory over NPC foe Mooresville (2-2).

The defending state champions jumped on Mooresville early, racing out to a 6-0 lead heading to the bottom of the second inning. Three Alexander Central hitters had two hits, including Tianna Batts, who also scored 2 runs for the Lady Cougars.

Milsaps’ ability to frustrate Mooresville’s hitters was more than just strikeouts. Alexander Central recorded 9 ground outs in the game, with only two Blue Devils picking up base hits against Milsaps. Leading 7-0 in the sixth, Alexander Central put the game out of reach, scoring five insurance runs before Makayla Shore closed the game.

The Lady Cougars have outscored Mooresville 57-1 over the last two seasons, and have only surrendered three runs in five games this season.
