The Cougars have now won 84 consecutive games, a new NCHSAA record.

TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. — The Alexander Central softball team put their name in the record book Tuesday, defeating West Iredell 10-0 to win a North Carolina record 84th consecutive game.

The Cougars have been nothing short of dominant during that span, outscoring opponents 934-91. 42 of their 84 wins have come via shutout, including 13 this season. Alexander Central has had just one run scored against them in their last 10 games, a 9-1 victory over North Stokes.

Head coach Monte Sherrill now owns the two longest streaks in NCHSAA fast-pitch softball history, as the old mark was 83 consecutive wins, achieved when Sherrill was heading the softball program at Central Cabarrus.
