25. Brooke Bowerman, Northern: The Huskies sophomore setter is the final selection of our Top 25 list. But don’t be surprised to find Bowerman much higher in the years to come. She has quickly progressed for the Huskies and should be at her best late in the season when Northern will need her the most.
BROOKE BOWERMAN
SCHOOL: Port Huron Northern
YEAR: Junior
SEASON: Bowerman was a first-team MAC Red Division selection after finishing the season with 816 assists, 134 service points and 145 digs.
COACH’S COMMENT: “Brooke was a team captain who showed outstanding improvement and leadership throughout the season,” Northern coach Tim Langolf said. “I can’t wait to see what her senior year brings.”

Marysville senior Bailey Bowns
BAILEY BOWNS
SCHOOL: Marysville
YEAR: Senior
SEASON: Bowns was a Class B honorable mention all-state selection and was also first team All-MAC Red Division. She was first on the team with 429 digs and also first in serve receptions (837). She added 255 kills.
COACH’S COMMENT: “She was a dynamic attacker from both the front and back row,” Marysville coach Ryan Welser said. “Bailey was not a flashy player. Instead, she thrived on ball control when attacking, service receive and defense, which is the exact thing that our program’s success has been predicated on for years. She has become a perfect model Viking volleyball player.”

Allessa Calamita, Croswell-Lexington
ALLESSA CALAMITA
SCHOOL: Croswell-Lexington
YEAR: Senior
SEASON: Calamita was an all-region and also a first team all-BWAC selection. She was voted team MVP and served as a captain.
COACH’S COMMENT: “Allessa is one of the strongest all around players in the area and was as strong of a leader as I have coached,” Cros-Lex coach Ryan Wilson said. “After being a defensive specialist the past two years, she excelled as one of our most powerful hitters on the team. She is outstanding on both sides of the service game and one of the quickest left backs in the area.”

Calista Chaltron
CALISTA CHALTRON
SCHOOL: Cardinal Mooney
YEAR: Senior
SEASON: Chaltron finished the season first team all-state in Class D after finishing the season on the all regional team and all catholic first team. She had 411 kills.
COACH’S COMMENT: “She had left her mark on the Cardinal Mooney volleyball program,” Cardinal Mooney coach Dennis Caulfield said. “She will go down as one of the finest players we’ve had. She is an example of what hard work can do and how it can pay off.”

Marine City senior Taelor Frank
TAELOR FRANK
SCHOOL: Marine City
YEAR: Senior
SEASON: The Mariners captain finished the year as MAC Gold MVP
COACH’S COMMENT: “Taelor was a four year starter and two year co-captain and developed into a tremendous leader,” Marine City coach Kelly Thomas said. “She led us in kills for the third year in a row and also led us in digs and serve receptions in most matches. She is one of the best all around players I have coached.”

Brittany Goodwin
BRITTANY GOODWIN
SCHOOL: Port Huron High
YEAR: Senior
SEASON: MAC Blue first team, Big Reds MVP
COACH’S COMMENT: “Brittany is a fierce competitor and really worked on her consistency this year,” Port Huron coach Megan Mitchell said. “She goes out and plays every game pretty much the same way. She goes out to win. She made a big jump between sophomore and junior year and she has been consistent after that.”

Payton Husson
PAYTON HUSSON
SCHOOL: Marysville
YEAR: Senior
SEASON: Husson finished the season with 625 kills, 131 blocks, 188 serve receptions, 146 digs and 34 aces en route to Class B first-team all-state honors. In addition, she was all-region and named to the MAC Red Division first team
COACH’S COMMENT: “She is incredibly smart,” Marysville coach Ryan Welser said. “It was an asset that will show its value for years after she is gone. She demanded excellence from the younger players. She demanded their best.”

Brown City junior Becki Krause
BECKI KRAUSE
SCHOOL: Brown City
YEAR: Junior
SEASON: Krause had 550 kills, 295 digs and 82 aces for Brown City en route to being named second team all-state in Class C. She was also an all-region and all-conference selection.
COACH’S COMMENT: “Becki is just a great all around athlete and kid,” Brown City coach Jenna Welke said. “She really perfected her game in the offseason and not only gained a lot of power behind her swing but really developed an off speed shot that was crucial for us this year.”

Alexia Mason of Brown City
ALEXIA MASON
SCHOOL: Brown City
YEAR: Junior
SEASON: Mason had 1,128 assists and was named Class C honorable mention all-state. She was also an all-region and an all-league selection after recording 251 digs, 122 aces and 53 blocks.
COACH’S COMMENT: “Alexia’s success has come purely from hard work and dedication in the gym,” Brown City coach Jenna Welke said. “She not only has great hands but is aggressive on the floor with her set choice and decision making.”

Marysville senior Mikayla Morgan
MIKAYLA MORGAN
SCHOOL: Marysville
YEAR: Senior
SEASON: Morgan was an all-region selection and honorable mention all MAC Red Division selection for the Vikings.
COACH’S COMMENT: “She is what enables us to run a middle hitter oriented offense,” Marysville coach Ryan Welser said. “You have to be an elite passing team to do that. She has been the backbone of our defense for two years.”

Devan Valko
DEVAN VALKO
SCHOOL: Marysville
YEAR: Senior
SEASON: Valko was named third team all-state in Class B. She was also an all-region selection and was first team all-MAC Red Division.
COACH’S COMMENT: “We became a more balanced offense behind her leadership this year,” Marysville coach Ryan Welser said. “Beyond setting, she was an incredible playmaker. She is arguably the best all around volleyball player in the area.”

Cardinal Mooney junior
ANNA VORDERBRUEGGEN
SCHOOL: Cardinal Mooney
YEAR: Junior
SEASON: Vorderbrueggen was a Class D second team all-state selection after recording 177 blocks this season.
COACH’S COMMENT: “Anna’s improvement over the last year has been amazing,” Cardinal Mooney coach Dennis Caulfield said. “She has become a dominant threat at the net. However her biggest improvement is in the ability to play all around. We are very excited to see what she can do next season.”
