All-City soccer final set for Saturday

Lakeview’s Parker Beuker (4) and Battle Creek Central’s Nicholas Insley will meet again on the soccer field in the All-City championship on Saturday.

For the second consecutive season, the Lakeview and Battle Creek Central boys’ soccer teams will meet in the All-City Tournament final.

Saturday will also mark the second time in as many weeks the cross-town rivals will meet on the pitch. When they squared off in a Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference matchup on Sept. 10, the game finished in a 0-0 tie.

The championship game at Harper Creek High School is set to kick off at 1 p.m. The consolation finals between Pennfield and Harper Creek will begin at 11 a.m.

STATE RANKINGS

Several area teams have been recognized among the best in the state by their respective coaches associations:

In volleyball, St. Philip is No. 1 in Class D; Harper Creek is No. 7 and Marshall is honorable mention in Class B; and Bronson is No. 2 in Class C.

In boys’ soccer, Coldwater is honorable mention in Division 2.

In girls’ swimming, Harper Creek is honorable mention in Division 3.

In girls’ tennis, Coldwater is No. 9 in Division 3.
