BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
GABE FENDEL, Hamilton Southeastern
Fendel recorded the fastest time in the state — 15:17 — on Sept. 12 at the Wildcat Invitational at Indiana Wesleyan. He led from start to finish, dominating the race and setting a new school record, according to his coach.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
MEGAN COLE, South Ripley
As a freshman, Cole has kicked off her high school career breaking the five-kilometer school record for the Raiders, running a 20:17 at the Rushville Invitational. She is the first individual from South Ripley to win that race. On Sept. 12, Cole cut her time further at the Jac-Cen-Del Invitational to 19:51.
SHAILI KUMAR, Brebeuf Jesuit
Kumar scored six goals in four games last week for the No. 2 Brebeuf Jesuit girls soccer team. She scored the game winning goal against Heritage Christian and has helped the Braves to a 9-1 record this season.
BRAD KURTZ, Crown Point
Kurtz scored 2 goals and had an assist to lead the Crown Point boys soccer team to a 3-2 win over Munster on Sept. 7.
HAYDEN HUYBERS, Hamilton Southeastern
Huybers recorded her 816th career kill on Sept. 14, breaking the school record of 815 previously held by HSE graduate Kierra Jones, who is playing at Purdue. On Sept. 12, she helped her team defeat Center Grove with 23 kills including the match point in a 15-13 fifth set. Huybers is committed to play next season at Indiana University.
TYRONE TRACY, Decatur Central
Tracy carried the ball 7 times for 130 yards and 2 touchdowns, and he had 3 receptions for 117 yards and 2 more touchdowns in the Hawks’ 49-14 victory over Martinsville.
EMMA KIEFFER, Evansville North
Kieffer placed fourth with a 73 at the Bloomington South Invitational on Sept. 5. A week later, she placed first with a 69 at the Southern Indiana Athletic Conference Tournament.
JONATHAN KROOT, North Central
Kroot has been a 4-year starter for the two-time defending State Champions. He is the emotional team leader, team captain and consistently pushes those around him to get better. This season, Kroot is 9-0 at the one doubles position with two wins over No. 2 Carmel High School. He also teamed up with partner Jon Tuerk to win the John Shirley Invitational.
