Top area performances for girls, boys basketball over the past week:
Becca Bergman had 15 points, including five in a game-winning 7-0 surge against Carmel, 10 against North Central and 12 against Fishers in Noblesville’s Class 4A Sectional 8 championship run, the Millers’ first sectional title since 1996. Alexis Shannon also had 24 points in the Fishers game.
Sheridan got 32 points from sophomore Brittany Welch, and 24 from freshman Audrey Reed as Sheridan earned first-ever girls’ sectional championship with a 67-52 Class 2A Sectional 39 win over Elwood.
Freshman Kayana Traylor had 28 points and freshman Meredith Deckard added 20, plus six 3-pointers, in Martinsville’s 68-60 4A Sectional 12 championship game win over Brownsburg.
Kristen Spolyar had 41 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals in 3A No. 5 Lebanon’s 69-34 win over Western Boone in the Sectional 25 championship game.
Riggs Baxter scored 32 points to move past the 1,000-point mark for his career as Western Boone nipped Speedway 67-66.
Matt Broderick had 14 points and 7 rebounds off the bench to help Brebeuf Jesuit knock off Class 2A No. 4 Crispus Attucks.
Freshman Damani McEntire had 14 points, 6 assists, 6 rebounds and 7 steals to lead Decatur Central past Northview 76-36.
Paul Scruggs scored 36 points to lift Southport to a 91-59 victory over Bedford North Lawrence.
Spencer Wood scored 15 points to lead Indian Creek to a 69-59 win over North Decatur as the Braves moved closer to clinching a Mid-Hoosier Conference championship.
