Codee Myers scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Ankeny girls’ basketball team to a 54-40 victory at Roosevelt on Tuesday.
It was the first win of the season for the Hawkettes (1-2), who were coming off a 49-48 loss to East on Friday when Eriana Brown made a driving layup at the buzzer.
“It was needed,” said Myers. “It’s a good confidence-booster.”
Sara McCullough had 12 points and Hannah Shadravan added 10 for Ankeny, which opened the second quarter with a 12-3 run to build a 22-11 lead. The Hawkettes led by at least eight points the rest of the way.
Ankeny connected on 18-of-26 free throws in the second half.
“I thought our kids played hard,” said Ankeny coach Brad Wilkening. “It was really a scrappy, hard-fought game both ways, but I thought our kids met the challenge.”
