Duane Brown is the new king of Western Pennsylvania rushing.
The Apollo Ridge running back, a senior, set a WPIAL single-game rushing record by racking up an astonishing 480 yards in a 56-35 victory against victory against Deer Lakes. He finished with eight touchdowns on 47 carries. His eight touchdowns are also believed to be a WPIAL record, according to Valley News Dispatch Sports Editor Bill Beckner.
Making matters even more impressive: Brown reportedly didn’t now that he had set any kind of a record until after the game, when he was informed by his mother. Talk about a Hallmark moment.
The record-setting performance comes at a good time for Brown, who is still in search of his first Division I scholarship offer. Perhaps that’s coming soon? One can only hope.
