The Appleton East softball team opened the season with an 8-0 victory over Appleton West in a Fox Valley Association game Tuesday at East.

Anna Pistone and Sydney Pfotenhauer combined to pitch a three-hitter for the Patriots. Pistone pitched the first three innings, allowed one hit and struck out five. Pfotenhauer pitched the final four innings, gave up two hits and struck out five.

Teagan Wittmann was 3-for-3 with three RBI for the Patriots. Megan Schweitzer added two hits.

Tess Verhyen had two hits for the Terrors.

At Hortonville, Hailey Hestekin pitched a one-hit shutout, striking out 10 with no walks, as the host Ghosts earned the win.

Haley Huss went 4-for-4, doubling and tripling for Kaukauna (3-0). Lexy Campshure picked up the lone hit for Hortonville (0-1).

At Little Chute, Alaina Schepp tossed a three-hitter with six strikeouts and went 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI to drive the Mustangs to a win.

Kaitlin Pynenberg added two hits for Little Chute, which broke open the game with a three-run sixth inning.

Sami Higgins had two hits for Clintonville.
