There isn’t a giant Blue Water showing in the Chicago to Mackinac race, but one boat is making a considerable splash.
Areté, skippered by Marine City’s Rick Warner, was creeping up on the finish line at 5 p.m. in 4th place in the multihull division. In the overall SuperMac race, the boat sat in 11th place.
Hell Bent, which docks at Port Huron Yacht Club, stood in 16th place in the 20-boat Section 03 class. The boat has a crew made up of plenty of area boaters, with Marysville’s Tyson Connolly, Fort Gratiot’s Grant Moore, Grant Township’s Max Schwanz, Croswell’s Dean Walsh and Lexington’s Chuck Williams aboard the ship.
Overall, Hell Bent was in 99th place in the Chicago-Mackinac Trophy race.
Fort Gratiot’s Nick Ward is on Fast Tango’s crew, and the crew was in good standing as they were in 6th place in the Section 07 standings. The boat was 9th overall in the SuperMac and 16th overall in the Mackinac Cup race as well.
The boats representing the Blue Water Area are expected to reach the finish line anywhere between Sunday night and Monday morning.
