Three southwest Missouri players could nab one of the most storied awards in Missouri high school basketball.
Four-time all-state selection Josie Young of Marionville is a finalist for Miss Show-Me Basketball, an annual award from the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association intended to recognize the top senior player in the state.
Young scored an average of 23 points per game and pulled down 7.5 rebounds per game as a senior. Should she win, she would be the second Comet to win the award following Marsha Burton in 1993.
Indiana University signee and Bass Pro Tournament of Champions alumnus Juwan Morgan of Waynesville is a finalist for the Mr. Show-Me Basketball Award. Morgan joins Mansfield’s Jacob Caruso on the list of finalists.
Caruso scored more than 29 points per game in his senior year with the Lions.
Mansfield and Waynesville have never had a Mr. Show-Me Basketball award winner.
Mr. and Miss Show-Me Basketball winners will be announced at the MOBCA Academic All-State banquet April 26 at University Plaza Hotel in Springfield.
Past winners of Miss Show-Me basketball from southwest Missouri include Heather Ezell of Kickapoo in 2005, Laura Granzow of Kickapoo in 2003, Terianne Wolford of Nixa in 2000, Kerensa Barr of West Plains in 1999, Melissa Grider of Marshfield in 1991 and Melody Howard of Marshfield in 1990.
Only two locals have been named Mr. Show-Me Basketball: Drew Richards of Rogersville in 2004 and Spencer Laurie of Kickapoo in 2003.
