ELLIS COUNTY — An arrest has been made in the weekend murder of a popular Ferris High School graduate.

Evette Quezada, 18, was found shot to death Sunday morning near her home on Newton Road in Ferris.

Two other men were found injured. Authorities say one is Quezada’s brother, the other, 30-year-old Frank “Frankie” Ortiz, has now been arrested for the shooting. He was released from the hospital Monday night and taken into custody on a $1 million bond.

Quezada suffered a gunshot wound to the head. Her brother was shot in the hand, according to the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office, and is expected to survive.

Authorities believe the trio were in a car together, with Quezada’s brother driving. It’s still unclear what led to the shooting.

Friends said Monday they were in shock over Quezada’s death, saying she was hard working and a star on the school’s cross country team.
