The sudden dismissal of Mark Richt as Georgia football coach sent shockwaves through the football recruiting community. While some recruits were understandably upset about Richt’s departure, at least one top uncommitted prospect appears to be even more excited about the man allegedly tapped to take his place.
On Monday, William Poole III, one of the top junior cornerback prospects in the nation, took to Twitter to express his excitement about Kirby Smart’s reported hiring as Georgia’s new head coach.
That’s the take of a man who is very excited about Kirby Smart returning to Athens, a particularly telling sentiment considering the fact that Poole has yet to decide where he’ll be playing his own college football. Georgia is evidently very much in the mix despite Richt’s departure, though there are literally dozens of other top national programs also chasing the defensive back. Then again, only Georgia has Smart, so the Bulldogs may very well be the team to beat in Poole’s own backyard.
