Members of the Avon Pond invite you to start your Thanksgiving Day in a fun and charitable way, as the local Shore based organization is set to host its Avon Pond Turkey Trot on Nov. 26.
This 2nd Annual event is a fundraising affair, as all proceeds will go to fund the operating costs of the Avon Pond, an outdoor ice skating facility in its sixth season of operation located in Volunteer Park in Avon by the Sea, which is managed and maintained by a crew of volunteers.
The Avon Pond serves the Jersey Shore and surrounding communities by providing ice skating, pond hockey and numerous charitable events throughout the winter season – including games to benefit the Brick Stars Challenger Hockey Program for local children and young adults with developmental disabilities, as well as the Wounded Warriors hockey program – and receives no public funding, making events like the forthcoming Turkey Trot integral to its survival.
The two and a half mile boardwalk run, which saw upward of 450 participants in 2014, will commence at 8:30 a.m. at Sylvania Avenue and stretch along a scenic seaside course starting in Avon and working its way into Bradley Beach, before participants will be redirected back toward the starting line in Avon.
The entry fee for the Avon Pond Turkey Trot is $25 before Nov. 19 and $30 on race day.
D’Arcy’s Tavern in Bradley Beach will be hosting a race packet pick up event for all those registered runners on Wednesday, Nov. 25th from 5 to 8 p.m. and will be open for breakfast on the morning of the race.
Other sponsors of this wonderful fundraising event include The Connolly Agency, which will supply water, Taylor Hardware, Bongiorno & Associates, The Norwood Inn, Reilly Bonner Funeral Home, North End Builders, Egan & Lynch Financial Group, Bar Anticipation, and The Belmar Fishing Club.
