A wild pitch led to a good win.
The Beacon High School baseball team placed third at its Spring Bash tournament, beating Ardsley 10-9 at Dutchess Stadium in Fishkill on Thursday.
In the bottom of the sixth inning with two outs, Brendon Malouf tripled and later scored the game’s deciding run on a wild pitch.
“I was very pleased,” Beacon coach Bob Atwell said. “We gave up the lead a couple times, but we hung in there and were able to scratch out a run to win it. It was a big win for our team, we played together with passion.”
Malouf also picked up the save, tossing a scoreless seventh inning. He was named to the all-tournament team.
Anthony Thompson helped highlight Beacon’s day on offense with a solo home run, and Keyshawn Espinal added a two-run triple.
Lenny Torres picked up his first win of the season in relief.
The Bulldogs (2-1) will be back at Dutchess Stadium at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, taking on Arlington B.
