Explosive innings in Thursday and Friday nights’ games helped Oshkosh Legion defeat Kimberly and Appleton Double Days respectively, and advance in the regional tournament.
Oshkosh pounded out hits against Kimberly for 13 runs in the second inning on Thursday’s game in Appleton. Jakob Guenther was 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs and a home run. Josh Bartelt added four RBIs as well, along with going 1-for-2. Sam Hawley was 1-for-4 with three RBIs, Alex Koch went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Aaron Roth was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and Brandon Schrader added a perfect 3-for-3 at bat.
Will Clark pitched five innings with four walks and 10 strike outs.
On Friday, Oshkosh advanced to play Appleton Double Days, cinching a win with 10 runs in the seventh inning. Koch went a perfect 3-for-3 at bat and added three RBIs. Matt Luft was 2-for-3 and also had three RBIs, Roth was 1-for-4 with an RBI, and Jordan Mueller was 2-for-2 and ran in four runs.
Luft pitched seven innings with only two walks and seven strike outs.
Oshkosh will play at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 25. If they win, the team will play in its second state tournament in two years.
