Don’t look now, but the Baylor football program is on a recruiting roll.
On Saturday, the Bears landed a commitment from Baron Browning, one of the top linebacker prospects in the Class of 2017; he’s ranked as the No. 1 inside linebacker by 247 Sports and is considered a bona-fide program changer on the defensive side of the football. The commitment is an early marker for Baylor’s Class of 2017, which has landed a handful of top prospects in recent weeks.
One of Browning’s expected future teammates, wide receiver Hezekiah Jones, took to Twitter to celebrate the linebacker’s pledge.
Jones’ tweet was certainly innocuous enough, though it’s worth noting that the wide receiver has been one of Baylor’s most vocal recruiters since his pledge to the Bears in late June. Apparently some Texas fans had heard enough, because Jones was eventually forced to respond with the following tweet:
Naturally, a tweet like that is as inflammatory as it is aimed at smoothing over relations between fan bases. And it may just be the first shot from Baylor’s Class of 2017 at its more well followed rival down the road in Austin.
