The Beacon High School girls basketball team lost to visiting Peekskill 54-35 Friday.
Despite the loss, Beacon coach Christina Dahl was happy her team was tested against a strong team.
“This was good competition for us,” she said. “Competition breeds experience. Now we can look at what we need to evaluate.”
The Bulldogs (3-6) trailed the Red Devils at halftime, 29-17, and weren’t able to catch up to the defending Section 1 Class A champions after the break.
“The first quarter we came out and had opportunities, but we just couldn’t finish,” Dahl said. “Against a team like Peekskill, that’s tough. We missed some easy baskets, and you can’t do that against Peekskill. It just wasn’t our night, offensively, and it hurt our momentum going forward.”
Sophomore Lauren Schetter led the Bulldogs with 15 points and seven rebounds. Miranda Dross added six points and Leandra Echi contributed with four.
“Lauren is developing into a strong and very confident post player,” Dahl said.
Beacon, which beat Hendrick Hudson on Wednesday, will host Albany at noon Saturday.
