Be afraid, be very afraid.
This week in #BeatBrian, we will be selecting from a monstrous slate of 10 games — the biggest we’ve seen so far this prep season.
Crazy to think that week five is here, and we are nearly halfway through the second annual #BeatBrian competition.
At this point, I’m 25-9 on the season, and my best week was week three when I went 6-1.
I’m striving for a perfect week this week, as always, but we’ve got 10 tough picks to make.
There will be six games in town tonight, with two teams from the PNJ area facing state powerhouses (Escambia at Columbia, Niceville at Tate).
Now, lets get down to picking:
Graceville at Jay: Jay will aggressively pursue its first win of the season here. The Royals got Graceville 26-17 last year, and I see them grabbing a win Friday night.
Jay over Graceville
Navarre at Fort Walton Beach: The Raiders are red hot after a much-coveted win over Choctaw last week. Though it was a close win, I see the Raiders picking up a more explosive win this week.
Navarre over FWB
Pace at Crestview: After two-straight losses, Pace got things together last week. I see the Patriots rushing their way to a consecutive win this week.
Pace over Crestview
Escambia at Columbia: Wow, another tough test for the Gators as they travel to face the No. 6 team in Class 7A. Big plays will be costly here, and with Columbia’s wins this season, it’s tough to pick against them.
Columbia over Escambia
Catholic at PHS: These schools are so close, players might know what kind of shoes their opponents wore to school today. At least if my pick is right, the Crusaders won’t have a long ride home.
PHS over Catholic
Bay at Washington: Run defense will be crucial for the Wildcats, as Bay holds Raekwon Webb in the backfield. I expect Bay to live up to it’s No. 10 ranking in Class 5A.
Bay over Washington
Milton at Pine Forest: Undefeated Milton meets the explosive Pine Forest Eagles. Last year, these teams took it to four overtimes before Milton came out on top. The scary thing is, both teams have improved since last year.
Pine Forest over Milton
West Florida at Gulf Breeze: I’m very interested to see what each team’s stats look like after this game. The matchup features the area’s top-two passers, and the area’s interception leader in Tino Espinoza (WF).
West Florida over Gulf Breze
Niceville at Tate: Oh boy…. the big one. Niceville beat Tate twice last year by a combined score of 69-7. This year, none of the Aggies feel like underdogs, and they’ve got me convinced.
Tate over Niceville
Vancleave (Miss.) at Northview: Vancleave is one of those teams that may not throw the ball more than six or seven times against Northview. But I think Vancleave’s steady rushing attack might be too much for Northview to contain. The Chiefs have showed strong quarters, but have failed to string a complete game together.
