Ben Simmons, the No. 1 player in the ESPN 100 who hails from Melbourne, Australia, helped Montverde (Fla.) Academy win back-to-back national titles and dominated the AAU scene last summer. This season he’s dominating on another level. Simmons, an LSU signee, has agreed to give USA TODAY HSS exclusive access into his world by chronicling everything from his intimate thoughts to his everyday life in a blog.
What’s up everybody it’s me, back with another blog; it’s getting closer and closer to the end of my senior year so this is probably one of my last blogs.
It’s crazy to think that this is my last year; time has definitely flown by.
Of course I can’t help but to think about winning my third straight national title. Sometimes guys say that you shouldn’t look past what’s in front of you, and I definitely focus on the team I’m playing, but when it’s this close to the national tournament, you can’t help but to think about it.
It honestly motivates me even more to think about winning my third title; if I think about that before a game I go even harder so it helps me.
It would be huge because winning one is great but winning three in a row would be major.
I know where I want to be in April and that’s what I’m focused on.
I know that we’ve got the team to do it. Everybody’s on the same page with everything and everybody knows what the goal is.
I visited LSU last week with my dad and had a really good time. After leaving there, I just couldn’t picture myself being anywhere else or playing for any other school. I, honestly, couldn’t picture myself even visiting another school.
It feels like home to me.
Last Tuesday night LSU played against Kentucky and I’m gonna go ahead and tell you guys that my Tigers are gonna meet them again and win. Everyone saw that we almost had that one.
Anyone can lose! And I guarantee you that LSU will not be scared. I think we match up well with Kentucky’s bigs and I think we’ll meet again and I’ve got us winning.
I was honored to make the McDonald’s All American game; just to represent Australia in the game is big for me.
School is going good for me and we have a program called “Basketball Buddies” where we get to hang out with younger kids that look up to us. I love doing that because it means so much to them.
Of course you guys know by now that my boy Antonio (Blakeney) is coming to LSU with me and that’s huge for us. We played together and we both know each other’s game. Having him with us makes our team a lot stronger next season. It’ll be fun playing with him again.
OK guys, thanks for reading one my final blogs of the season. I’ll get back to you guys with another one soon.
