The Ben Simmons Blog: Gatorade AOY event, life as a LSU freshman, major adjustments and more

By

Ben Simmons, the No. 1 player in the ESPN 100 for 2015 who hails from Melbourne, Australia, helped Montverde (Montverde, Fla.) complete the three-peat on national titles and dominated the AAU scene last summer. This past season he dominated on another level and won, virtually, every Player of the Year award handed out. Simmons, who recently enrolled as a freshman at LSU, gave USA TODAY HSS exclusive access into his world by chronicling everything from his intimate thoughts to his everyday life in a blog. This is his final entry.

What’s up world!

I definitely haven’t talked to you guys in a while, but I’m back.

I’m actually live here at the Gatorade Athlete of the Year awards in L.A. I definitely have to give Gatorade a shoutout because this event has been a great experience in every aspect. I am having a ball!

Kyler Murray ended up winning the award so shoutout to him! He’s a great player and he’s gonna do big things at Texas A&M.

I’m already in school at LSU and that’s just been great!

I love it there. It’s a big adjustment from high school, but I’m taking it all in and trying to enjoy everything about it.

The basketball and books side is easy for me; just working out and getting my work done in the classroom and getting better on the court is what I do. The tougher part is being to workouts 15 minutes early, getting taped, even the stretching is an adjustment. It makes you pay attention to every detail, which only makes you a better player and person, period.

I had to learn my lesson about not being on time once!

Whew, that was rough; the punishment is running five miles at 5 a.m.

All I have to say is this: I will NEVER be late to a workout EVER again. I learned my lesson. It’s serious!

I’m definitely looking forward to starting the season, though. The team looks really strong.

I’ll be playing the point-forward position and I really think it’s gonna change the complexion of the team and open up a lot for us.

Definitely look out for those Tigers next season!

OK, people, I’ve really appreciated everyone that read my blog over the last three years!

Wow, I can’t believe the time has gone by that fast!

I hope you’ll continue to support me at the next level!

Take care and I’ll see you guys at the start of the college hoops season!
