The Ben Simmons Blog: Completing the 3-Peat, postseason all-star games and more

Ben Simmons, the No. 1 player in the ESPN 100 who hails from Melbourne, Australia, helped Montverde (Montverde, Fla.) complete the three-peat on national titles and dominated the AAU scene last summer. This season he dominated on another level and won, virtually, every Player of the Year award handed out, including American Family Insurance ALL-USA. Simmons, an LSU signee, has agreed to give USA TODAY HSS exclusive access into his world by chronicling everything from his intimate thoughts to his everyday life in a blog.

What’s up everybody this is the three-time national champion coming at you with another blog!

We did it!

I’ve been blogging all year about my goal being to win my third national title and last week we got it done!

I don’t even know how we got it done. This whole season has been a blur to me to be honest. I feel like it all went by so fast. I think I’ve just been rolling nonstop so much that I haven’t even had a chance to sit back and process the season. I’ll be happy when I get back and I can just relax and unwind and get some downtime.

It was such an honor to win the Naismith Player of the Year, the Morgan Wootten Player of the Year and the ALL-USA Player of the Year awards. Like I said things have been so hectic, but I am definitely honored to have gotten those!

Right now I’m in Portland for the Nike Hoop Summit and I’m excited about the game. I’m playing on the World Team and we’re playing against Team USA, which is exactly the way I wanted it.

I only like to play against the best players and these are the guys I’ve been competing with all year. I just feel like playing against the best players can only make you better and my goal, whenever I play, is to get better.

It’s cool down here with all the guys. We’re all having a good time.

When I leave here I’ll be home for four days then I’m headed to New York for the Jordan Brand Classic game so I’m really looking forward to that one.

We had the McDonald’s All American game last week to and that whole week was just fun. They gave us great gear, the media was crazy, the fans were crazy and the overall experience was crazy!

One of the coolest things we did that week was visit the Ronald McDonald House to see the kids there. I had a lot of fun there and I definitely made a new friend, shoutout to my little guy Bradley!

My plan after everything is done and I’m just back home is to take a few days off then get right back in the gym and start preparing for the next level.

I want to come in to college so much better than I am right now. I feel like there’s so much I need to improve on and I want to get better and have it noticeably better by the time I get to LSU.

I feel like guys don’t take full advantage of that gap between when their high school season ends and when they go off to college, but I’m getting work in.

OK, it’s late here in Portland and I’ve gotta get some rest so I’m gonna get ready to go.

The game is Saturday at 3 p.m. EST so check us out. I’m gonna do everything that I can to get this win!

OK, people once again this is the three-time national champ signing off with another blog in the books!

I’ll talk to you guys soon.
