Dylan Bennett got it done on both ends of the court to help Brighton beat Grand Blanc for the first time since Jan. 28, 2011, 61-56.
Bennett scored a game-high 27 points and held Grand Blanc star Tre’von Avery to just four first-half points.
“It was a really nice night for him offensively and especially defensively,” Brighton coach Mike Griest said.
Mike Lloyd added 12 points and six rebounds as one of three Bulldogs in double figures. Colin McClelland added 10 for Brighton (3-5 overall, 1-1 KLAA West).
“Every division game is big,” Griest said. “Hopefully, this win gives us some confidence. If we play to our potential we can compete in this division. We just have to come out with the same intensity and grit that we did tonight.”
Howell 58, Milford 52
HOWELL – Deajay Klett scored 19 points and the Highlanders used a 17-9 fourth quarter to pull out the win.
Derek Kerner added 10 points, while Jake Wendel had nine and Jake Wright eight for Howell (5-2, 2-0).
Hartland 50, Pinckney 44
HARTLAND – The Eagles got out to a 21-8 lead at halftime, then withstood a furious comeback by the Pirates to pick up their first KLAA West win of the season.
The Pirates charged to within a point, 39-38, in the fourth quarter before the Eagles took over again and pulled away.
Noah Marshall had 12 points for Hartland (3-3, 1-1), while Konlan Paul added 11 points and Luke Maggert had eight points and eight assists.
Jacob Schmitter led Pinckney (3-5, 1-1) with 12 points.
Livingston Christian 48, Wixom Christian 26
PINCKNEY – Before Friday, Livingston Christian team hadn’t won since its crazy buzzer-beater victory over rival Charyl Stockwell in mid-December. After Tuesday, the Falcons have their first winning streak.
Daniel Zolinski led the way for the Falcons (3-3) with 12 points. Logan Klein hit four 3-pointers to finish with 12.
Charyl Stockwell 70, Ann Arbor Central Academy 47
ANN ARBOR – Tommy Wilson scored a career high 25 points and Aaron Krupansky added 23 for the Sentinels (4-2).
Krupansky added eight rebounds and six assists, while Emerson Loria had 8 rebounds and five assists and Jeremy Bond pulled down eight rebounds for CSPA.
Brighton 46, Grand Blanc 29
GRAND BLANC – Alex Forster and Kelsey Todd each had 13 points for the Bulldogs, who took control in the first quarter, outscoring Grand Blanc 16-1.
Cori Crocker added 10 points for Brighton (6-2, 2-0).
Charyl Stockwell 48, Ann Arbor Central Academy 10
ANN ARBOR – The Sentinels (4-3) opened up a 22-2 lead after one quarter and took a 38-2 lead by the half with a second-quarter shutout.
Grace DeLorenzo had a game-high 13 points and six assists while Emma Miko had 12 points and seven rebounds. River Murphy had six points and eight rebounds also for the Sentinels.
MBISA Slalom Meet
BRIGHTON – The Brighton boys finished first overall, led by five in the top 15 at Mt. Brighton.
Josh Staszel was fourth with a combined time of 48.34, while Sam Vaden was fifth (50.29), Josh Lazzari sixth (50.47) and Max Braidwood 12th (52.52).
The defending state champion Brighton girls were fourth overall, led by Morgan Myers, who was third in 50.03.
