After starting the season 7-0 in the first two weeks of picks, this slate of games gets a little tougher as Sussex Central plays Queen Anne’s County in Maryland, and Sussex Tech hosts Laurel.
Sussex Central (1-1) at Queen Anne’s (2-1) – Friday, Sept. 25, 7:00 p.m.
Sussex Central went to Interboro High School in Pennsylvania and competed with a tough team, losing 26-6 but the score was 6-6 in the third quarter. With another tough game against Queen Anne’s, head coach John Wells will have his team ready to play. The tough, physical run game gets going and the defense holds on. Central 28-26.
Laurel (1-1) at Sussex Tech (2-0) – Friday Sept. 25, 7:30 p.m.
Tech is really on a roll. Laurel has a shot in the game but Tech’s size advantage – similar to Central’s 21-0 win against the Bulldogs – might be exploited by the Ravens’ running game. If Tech starts rolling on the ground, it could be a long day for Laurel. Tech 35-28.
Indian River (0-2) at Cape Henlopen (1-1) – Friday, Sept. 25, 7:30 p.m.
After watching the Indians last Friday against Sussex Tech, IR isn’t quite there. They’re banged up, not as physically big as the division I teams, making this game a mismatch.
Cape hung with Maryland powerhouse Oakdale last Friday and will be prepared for IR. The only way the Indians catch the Vikings is if the running game takes off. Cape won’t allow that and take home the 28-14 win.
