Port Huron senior Devon Lynch runs the ball after recovering a fumble and breaks a tackle during a football game Friday, September 25, 2015 at Memorial Stadium in Port Huron.
The Port Huron football team snapped its two-game losing streak with authority Friday night, defeating Roseville 64-43 at Memorial Stadium.
Behind a 309 rushing yards from Jermaine Drake, the Big Reds offense put up 554 yards of total offense in the Macomb Area Conference crossover win.
“Tonight, our line blocked successfully,” said Drake, who also averaged more than 19 yards per carry and scored a pair of touchdowns. “We stayed consistent with our plays.”
DeAngielo Sanderson added 131 yards and three touchdowns on the ground, and threw for 73 yards (8-of-11 passing) and a score. Devon Lynch rushed for two touchdowns, and returned a fumble for a touchdown in the first quarter. He also had a pair of interceptions. Jake Lee led the Big Reds receivers with three catches for 46 yards and a score.
Port Huron jumped out to a 35-7 lead in the second quarter before Roseville was able to close the gap to 35-19 going into the half. The Big Reds scored the next 16 points, however, including a safety, to pull away.
The win puts Port Huron at 2-3 on the season, with games against Warren Mott and Romeo up next.
“It was pretty big,” Drake said. “Just getting our momentum going into the games against Mott and Romeo.
“We just have to keep our consistent work and buckle down on defense.”
