An offensive explosion in the third quarter paced Westlake to a 50-44 win over visiting Pleasantville on Tuesday.
After a defensive-minded first half which saw the score at 18-15 in favor of Westlake, the Wildcats came out firing. They scored 20 points, including four 3-pointers, to take a 14-point lead into the fourth quarter.
“It was a nice way to come out of halftime, it gave us some breathing room,” Westlake coach Sean Mayer said. “We got quicker ball movement and our shots weren’t as rushed. We got ourselves in positions to take better shots.”
Natalie Alfieri led Westlake with 17 points, with seven of them coming in the third quarter. Josy Amerson had a game-high 19 points for Pleasantville, who fell to 8-3.
With the win, Westlake improves to an 8-2 overall record and a 3-0 league record. The two losses have come against Ardsley and Irvington.
“We’re still working hard to play with those top teams,” Mayer said. “But we’re putting ourselves in that area.”
