Good Friday will take on a different meaning when two of the best softball teams in the Western North Carolina Athletic Conference play this afternoon in Canton.
North Henderson (9-1, 3-1) pays a visit to Pisgah (7-2, 3-0) at 4 p.m. in Canton.
It’s early. But the WNCAC race is one of the most interesting ones in the mountains.
The Black Bears are the only team without a loss in the 2-A/3-A league, while the Knights, Smoky Mountain (7-1, 4-1) and Franklin (5-3, 3-1) all have one defeat on their WNCAC records.
Pisgah has been led in hitting this spring by Miranda Connor (.444), Shelby Tomassi (.370), Nadia Hudson (.320) and Morgan Henson (.318).
Callie Kuykendall has a 0.16 earned run average and 36 strikeouts in 44 innings pitched. She has signed to play college softball for Queens.
North Henderson’s leadoff hitter is Presbyterian recruit Jonnie Petree, who holds the school record for career hits and runs scored.
Score updates from North Henderson-Pisgah as well as other Friday games and matches will be available this afternoon and evening on the High School Huddle.
