Three Mountain Home High School golfers wrapped up play in the Class 6A State boys’ golf tournament on Wednesday at Searcy Country Club.
The Jonesboro Hurricane won their sixth consecutive team championship, following a first-day 311 with a 303 in Wednesday’s second round for a 614 team total. The host Searcy Lions placed a distant second with a 642 total.
The Bombers did not qualify for second-day play, but the trio of Matt Robbins, Gage McClain and Ben Hagaman qualified as individuals for the second round.
McClain followed his first-day 91 with an 83 on Wednesday for a total of 174, while Robbins followed a 90 with an 85 for a 175 total and Hagaman shot a pair of 94s for a 188 total.
Wil Gibson was the state medalist with a 141 (70-71), 12 strokes ahead of the nearest golfer, Texarkana’s Ethan Eppinette (77-76-153). Jonesboro’s Kyle Covington was third at 155 (78-77) and will join Gibson and Eppinette at next week’s Overall State Tournament in Little Rock.
Marion finished in third place with a 673 team total, while Benton — the champion from the 6A-South — placed fourth at 680.
