Borden's Magallanes finishes 8th in state cross country

Borden senior Julien Magallanes finished eighth during Saturday’s IHSAA boys cross country state championship race in Terre Haute.

Magallanes crossed the line in 15:31.9. Carmel’s Ben Veatch won his second straight individual title, pulling away from the field in 14:59.8. Silver Creek was 24th in the team competition as Cameron Stephens paced the Dragons by finishing 45th in 16:09.0.

Carmel won the team title with 115 points.

In the girls race, Floyd Central settled for 22nd place in the team event with 484 points. Carmel won the crown with 70.

Kassidy Manning paced the Highlanders by finishing 23rd overall in 18:38.1. Carmel’s Sarah Leinheiser was the individual champion in 17:30.8.
